One Foto, One Family
During the holidays, I think a lot about family. The excitement of seeing each other to celebrate, shopping for everyone, lots of phone calls back and forth...it's a great time of year. This year, I've been thinking about family in a different way because my friend Arianne came up with an amazing idea for a project and has given me the privilege of being able to get involved.
The project is called One Foto, One Family. In a nutshell, our goal is to give families in rural communities a family portrait, and in return, use their images and stories to create compassion, empathy and understanding in our society. We want to use photography and storytelling to help remind people that even though we are all so very different - whether it is where we live, how we live, what color our skin is, what language we speak, etc - at the core, we are all very much the same. Our lives are so busy and consumed by daily distractions that it's easy to forget about people you don't actually see every day. However, as our communities become more united and more global (thank you, internet), it's important to remember our sisters and brothers across the globe, many of which are struggling and living lives that people with the technology to read this blog don't imagine.
I am so excited at the prospect of putting my photography to good use and being a part of this. Our first project is going to be in Nicaragua. Check out our Kickstarter page to learn more and help us get there if you can!

Meanwhile, here is an image of a wonderful family we stayed with in Morocco, and my own. Hope you get lots of quality time with your loved ones this holiday season.
