Happy New Year!

Let's kick 2011 off with a little inspiration.  Do you know about Vivian Maier?

I don't want to re-hash all the information already available, but it's an incredible story that has gotten a lot of attention lately, due to an upcoming exhibition, film and book.  Take the time to check out John Maloof's blog for Vivian and read the background - it's way worth your time.  The blog is chock-full of fantastic images, it was so hard to pick just a few to post. There are many interesting facets to this story... I can't imagine being the one to discover these images, knowing little about street photography or photography in general. How cool! Her work is AMAZING and as you look through it, it is fun to wonder about her life, how she got started, what inspired/influenced her, etc.  It's sad that these questions will likely never be answered, but we are very lucky that her work was discovered at all!  Is it silly that I am really proud that this is all going down in Chicago?!  Well, I am :)

If you have the chance, check out the show at the Chicago Cultural Center. It's up from Jan 8 - April 3, and FREE for all to enjoy. I so wish I could see it! Maybe it'll travel to San Diego (or more realistically, LA).  Should you feel so inclined, you can support the upcoming book and documentary on Kickstarter.

What an exciting photo discovery!

On another note, Aline Smithson did her annual Favorite Image of the Year post! Head over to her blog, Lenscratch, and check out all the submissions.  LOTS of good stuff there to feast your eyes on, including one image by yours truly.

I hope 2011 is a year full of creativity, adventure and discovery for us all!

You're right, this story is very touching and inspiring... I wish one day an exhibition will be hosted in Toronto so I can have the chance to see her pictures for real :)
